specific details of the techniques used during a particular period.

BYZANTINE FRESCO TECHNIQUES
4-day Professional Buon Fresco Workshop
During this workshop students will learn painting techniques as practiced in Byzantium and presently in the Orthodox Christian tradition as well as the details of wall and panel preparation.
Students will learn specific methods of applying color and painting principles of the "canon" as well as discover merging points and crosspollination with Italian frescoes.
Each student will create up-to three 16X16 frescoes.(click for more info)

POMPEIAN FRESCO TECHNIQUES
4-day Professional Buon Fresco Workshop
During this workshop student will explore and practice specific fresco techniques used by Romans as well as the details of wall and panel preparation.
During this class we focus on painting on 1 part lime 1 part marble meal (original "marmorino") layer of plaster-system used in Pompeii.
As well as learn about terracotta (hydraulic lime) based lime fresco plaster used by their Etruscan contemporaries.
Up-to three 16X16 frescoes will be painted.(click for more info)

TECHNIQUES OF SGRAFFITO
4-day Professional Buon Fresco Workshop
During this workshop student will explore classic techniques of sgraffito as well as the details of wall and panel preparation.
Learn about classic system of preparation of the colored plasters for base intermediate and top layers of plaster.
One-layer and two-three layer classic sgraffito systems with lime-paint and plaster top coats will be studied and practiced.
Sgraffito work often includes details painted in buon fresco which is also addressed during this workshop.
Up-to three 16X16 sgraffito frescoes will be created.(click for more info)

RENAISSANCE FRESCO TECHNIQUES
4-day Professional Buon Fresco Workshop
During this workshop student will focus on the classic methods of buon fresco painting practiced during the Renaissance as well as study the details of wall and panel preparation.
Student will further their understanding of the perspective, value range principals, verdaccio under painting and its affect on the painting process.
This workshop is a direct follow up to the Buon Fresco Painting Foundations DVD Tutorial Set.
Up-to three 16X16 ornamental frescoes by each student will be created. (click for more info)

FRESCO ORNAMENTATION & SURFACES
4-day Professional Buon Fresco Workshop
During this workshop student will focus on the ornamentation, trompe l’oeil elements and decorative buon fresco surfaces as well as the details of wall and panel preparation.
This is not a culture/period specific workshop and the students are free to choose from variety of options from frescoes of India or China, Aztec or Inka, Western Europe or Byzantium and more.

(foundations of fresco painting and sgraffito)
 Introduction to Fresco Workshop
provides comprehensive insight and practical
introduction to traditional buon fresco and sgraffito. This workshop
provides hands-on fresco painting experience and the foundation
knowledge of the technique as well
as prepares student for our professional level workshops and programs. 3-day
Introduction to Fresco Workshop enables student to
work in fresco on a small scale and provides solid
guide and foundation for further study of the medium.
For Los Angeles residents this workshop comes with an option to
attend Day 1 - "Fresco Cartoon" one week before Day 2 - "Fresco
Plaster" and Day 3 - "Fresco Painting" classes which grants
extra time to prepare and refine their cartoons. This is also a
very "travel friendly" workshop that can be easily brought to
your local college, university, school or art organization.

within "Introduction to
Fresco Program". "Introduction to Fresco Program" runs throughout the calendar year
and offers private fresco tutoring.
